Do ya understand?
—by The Wandering Bard

Do ya understand what its like
To wake up with a hunger
That you know damn-good-and-well
Will be stronger when you go to bed
Than when you rose up, that morn’n?

Do ya understand what its like
To want som’thing so bad
That ya can’t think of anything else
But ya know like as not
You’ll die without ever obtain’n it?

Do ya understand what its like
To live in a place
Where your enemies rule
Always tell’n ya what can and can’t do
And there’s not a damn thing ya can do about it”?

Do ya understand what its like
To not be able to feed your family
Because of your belief
That your land should be free
And those who control it should be gone?

As ya sit down in your easy chair
Com’n home from your comfortable job
Hear’n ‘bout the latest things
The Lads from Belfast and there about, have done
Do you understand what its like?

And if not, how do you feel qualified,
To judge them that do?
