Ireland's OWN: Óglaigh na hÉireann

 

6 January 2007 Óglaigh na hÉireann New Year's Message This following text was released anonymously to the editorial board of The Sovereign Nation. Óglaigh na hÉireann New Years Message 2007. The Leadership of Óglaigh na hÉireann extend solidarity and New Years Greetings to our Volunteers, to our friends and to our supporters at home and abroad. We also send solidarity greetings to our  POW’s and to their families and pledge to them our continued support. At this time we remembers all those who gave their lives for the Republican cause and their families, we promise them that we will continue until our objectives have been achieved. Republicanism has been dealt a grave blow in the last decade and more. Its revolutionary character has been drowned in a sea of reformism, separatist politics has given was to the politics of Home Rule, radical Republicanism has given way to constitutional nationalism. This is a situation that all republicans have a duty and responsibility to reverse. Óglaigh na hÉireann call for a realignment of the Republican forces around the defence of the republican position. For too long we have allowed ourselves to be fragmented, marginalised and isolated. This has provided succour to our enemies and has allowed our position to be portrayed as weak. There is now however a reawakening among the Republican base. The scale of the treachery that would encourage Irish Republicans to support a British police force has cut through the ambiguous double speak and no amount of spin can conceal what republicans are being asked to endorse. Óglaigh na hÉireann condemn the attempts by former comrades to intimidate and silence debate among Republicans on the policing issue and we further view their attempts to portray themselves as victims of republican threats for what they are, an attempt to distract their own base from the inevitability of their eventual capitulation to British and Unionist preconditions. Ireland is a nation under occupation and as such the issue of  British policing cannot be separated from the constitutional question. Those who would argue that civic and political policing are unconnected are misreading the reality of the situation, while a country is under occupation all policing is political. Recognition of the police as legitimate is recognising the legitimacy of the state they are tasked to  protect. It is a recognition of the legitimacy of the status quo. Óglaigh na hÉireann have been tasked in our constitution to uphold and defend Irish sovereignty, this is incompatible with support of a police force under the control of those who have failed to recognise our sovereignty and have used this police force in support of their army of occupation. Óglaigh na hÉireann will continue to resist British occupation in all its manifestations. We will continue to reject the ongoing  process of pacification and normalisation and we will continue to resist all those who engage in or facilitate this process. This coming year we again pledge ourselves to the defence of Irish sovereignty, the Irish peoples right to national self determination and in defence of the nation. Beir Bua.
