The King of Nightmares
—by The Wandering Bard

So you wanted to see me did you?
Open your eyes and look at yourself
I am older than time and younger than a newborn
The eternity I was spawned,
Hell did not yet burn
And the Lake of Fire was just a
Puddle of Pain
But even then I knew that on this day you would come   A welcome to Hell simply won’t do
For Hell is as calm as a book shelf
And as comfortable as a pair of shoes that are well worn
In my lair the true meaning of darkness you will learn
I am the one who made Lucifer so vain
And even He, to ME, a dark homage must pay

I love night but can live in light too
I am immortality itself
Vampires roam the night and look at death with scorn
But to my Chalice of Dread they must always return
I feed on the fear brought forth as life’s blood they drain
But I still live while in endless slumber they lay

I am the King of Nightmares, old and new
Terror’s my fairy
fear is my elf I’m worst than the devil and
I need not wear a horn
Wealth is my bait with more power than you could e’er earn
When my hunger’s not met, tears will flow like the rain
Your soul I will steal and your spirit I will slay

I honor no oath, hold no allegiance or creed
Those who lust for dark prestige call me Greed
