Mandolins and rainbows
—by Míchealín Daugherty

On a sultryday in rainbow’d rain
You called me to your hearth
Where lovely mandolin poured forth
From youthful-vigour pain.

‘Twas Minerva guided me to thee
A wreath of laurel twined
With hemp, and roses made to wine
‘Neath secrets long kept deep.

We danced among the sacred trees
As Taltós played his pipe,
‘Twas sanctity from earthbound life
Two lovers running free.

We starry lamplight figures ran,
Broke bread to hail the Moon
And carried Venus-gifts in bloom,
With dew from Juno’s band.

Then Holly took the God of Oak
And Blackmail took your soul
But no man can match your worth in gold
Nor m’heart could he revoke.

‘Cause Luperci still sings our song
Weaves our passion into stars
And I still love you from afar
To you I still belong.
