The Soldier's Note
—by Franco Emmet
Dear Wife,
Don't give these free-stater's the pleasure
I do not want tears fallling from my treasure
Do not weep dear wife
For each day in here is a day from our life
For each tear that drops from your sweet eyes
Is like a dagger in my heart
When we say our goodbyes
I write these lines
Because I cannot express
How I miss your face nestled in my breast
I gaze at the stars each and every night
None can compare to your eyes so bright
But when I am free I still must struggle on
For a country in slavery is a country wronged
So your solider must spend another night alone
With a heart torn between freedom, my family, and my home.
