Goddess: Tara (Tibet and India/Hindu, Jain and Buddhist)
[pronounced TAH-rah]
Tara, goddess of self-mastery, was the first woman to become what is known as a buddha or enlightened one. She devoted her mortal life to gaining enlightenment and spiritual wisdom. Even today, compassionate Tara helps mortals who worship her to over come their fears. She appears in 21 forms, offering assistance with 21 different aspects of life. As White Tara, she is the calm, meditative goddess who gives serenity to her worshippers. As Green Tara, her fierceness tears away false beliefs. She also appears with red, yellow and blue skin, each representing a different power. Tara is said to answer the prayers of all her call her name.
