Worthy
—by The Wandering Bard
Although I’ve not walked the path of fame
Nor was great fortune ever my lot
I am no less worthy than a King
Nor less bold than a chivalric knight
For me the firmament is as blue
And the Earth is the same hue of green
My Heart and my Mind are mine to rule
And my future is of my makingFar too long have I shunned my own crown,
And worn a three-pronged collar instead
But shattered my shackles now have I
N’er again another’s slave to be
Too long have I allowed what is mine
To go unclaimed, at the door to lay
As I pick up: crown collar and whip
I am my own: king, master and slaveMy allegiance I owe to no one
Yet I shall give it to those worthy
To myself I give allegiance, first
For I now know I am deservingCopyright © 2005 Daryl L. Chambers Jr., "The Wandering Bard."
